« General culture allows to know better how to behave but also how to better manager »
Summer break is key to rest and also to take the height that is sometimes missing in everyday life. I understood that general culture was a key issue in management thanks to the « Sur les épaules des géants » courses. Advised by a professional contact who supported my application, I was able to follow the free Odyssée program. Hosted for eight weeks by Bertrand Ballarin, former military and director of social relations at the Michelin group, each online talk focuses on social and societal themes such as the cosmos, freedom, equality, brotherhood or nation.
Through this program I took the time to read and consider topics useful to knwo myself, hence to know others. Knowledge allows you to question yourself. « Relational intelligence is a succession of personal learning that enables a qualitative communication and conflict management » (Juliette Ricou & Valérie Moissonier)

« Relational intelligence is a succession of personal learning that enables a qualitative communication and conflict management »
Jean Rostand said, « Culture is not having the brain stuffed with dates, names or numbers; it is the quality of judgment, the logical requirement, the appetite for evidence, the notion of the complexity of things and the arduousness of problems. It is the habit of doubt, discernment in mistrust, modesty of opinion. »
When you don’t know people, what we call small talk is fundamental. Born in the 18th century according to the Oxford dictionary, the scholar Bronisław Kasper Malinowski published an essay in 1923 entitled The Problem of Meaning in Primitive Language, where he demonstrated the importance of small talk. Satisfying a fundamental human need, camaraderie, small talk plays an essential role in social relations. Recent interviews in London have allowed me to appreciate the importance of having a good culture to fuel conversation at the table.
General culture forges our relational intelligence, a valuable soft skill. General culture allows you to :
- Break the ice with small talk
- understand your interlocutor through the DISC Martson
- defuse conflict through broad social and societal concepts
